Namdaemun Market

남대문시장

Jung-gu, Seoul · 서울

Korea’s oldest and largest traditional market, running since 1414 — ten thousand stalls of clothing, kitchenware, ginseng and glasses, with a famous alley of knife-cut noodle stands.

Why it’s worth it

Kalguksu alley at lunchtime is the whole market in one narrow row. Much of the wholesale trade runs from 23:00 to dawn, which is a different market entirely.
