Demachi Futaba

出町ふたば

Demachiyanagi, Kyoto · 京都

A confectioner founded in 1899, selling one thing everybody comes for: mame-mochi, soft rice cake studded with whole red peas, made the same morning.

Why it’s worth it

The queue moves fast and the mochi has to be eaten the same day, so eat it on the river delta a hundred metres away. That is the entire ritual.
