Philosopher's Path
哲学の道
Higashiyama, Kyoto · 京都
A stone path following a canal from Ginkaku-ji south toward Nanzen-ji, named for a philosopher who walked it daily on his way to the university.
Why it’s worth it
The point is the walk, not the destination. Do it in the late afternoon and turn off it whenever a temple gate looks open — the best ones on this route are the ones nobody queues for.
