Hakone Tozan Railway
箱根登山鉄道
Hakone-Yumoto, Hakone · 箱根
Japan’s steepest adhesion railway, climbing from Hakone-Yumoto to Gōra by three switchbacks where the driver and guard change ends each time.
Why it’s worth it
In late June the whole line is banked with hydrangeas and runs a night service to see them lit. The switchbacks alone are worth the fare.
