Bijarim Forest

비자림

Gujwa, Jeju · 제주

The largest stand of torreya nucifera anywhere, protected as a natural monument, with red volcanic gravel paths winding between trees planted before the Joseon dynasty.

Why it’s worth it

One tree here is dated at around 800 years. The gravel underfoot is scoria from the island’s own eruptions, and it is the only sound in the forest.
