Hie Shrine

日枝神社

Akasaka, Tokyo · 東京

A hilltop shrine above the government district, reached by a stepped path under some ninety vermilion torii — Tokyo’s answer to Fushimi Inari, at one-hundredth the scale.

Why it’s worth it

Almost no visitors find it, and it is five minutes from Tameike-Sannō station. Go up the torii stairs on the west side, not the escalator.
