Omoide Yokochō

思い出横丁

Shinjuku, Tokyo · 東京

Sixty-odd tiny grills packed into two alleys beside Shinjuku Station, going since the late 1940s. Charcoal smoke, six seats a bar, no room for a coat.

Why it’s worth it

Also called Piss Alley, affectionately. Go at seven, stand where there is space, and eat skewers off the grill in front of you.
