Ueno Park
上野恩賜公園
Ueno, Tokyo · 東京
Japan’s first public park, on the hill where the shogunate made its last stand in Edo. Today it holds the National Museum, the Western Art Museum, a science museum and a pond full of lotus.
Why it’s worth it
Nowhere else in Tokyo puts this much culture inside one walk. In April the central avenue is the loudest, happiest hanami in the city — go on a weekday.
