Yanaka Cemetery
谷中霊園
Yanaka, Tokyo · 東京
Seven thousand graves under a canopy of cherry trees, including the last Tokugawa shogun. Cats sleep on the warm stones and locals cut through on their way to the station.
Why it’s worth it
It is a cemetery treated as a neighbourhood, which is very Yanaka. The central avenue in blossom is one of the quietest beautiful things in Tokyo.
