Isuien Garden

依水園

Nara Park, Nara · 奈良

Two linked gardens, one from the 17th century and one from the 19th, framed so that the Nandaimon gate and the hills behind become part of the composition.

Why it’s worth it

Two minutes from Tōdai-ji and almost empty. Take the tea at the pavilion and look at how deliberately the far gate has been placed in the view.
