Jogyesa Temple
조계사
Jongno, Seoul · 서울
The head temple of Korean Seon Buddhism, hemmed in by office blocks, with a 500-year-old locust tree in the courtyard and paper lanterns strung overhead year-round.
Why it’s worth it
In the weeks around Buddha’s Birthday the whole courtyard is roofed with lanterns. It is free, central, and open while everything else is shut.
