Founded in 1202 at the bottom of Gion, holding the Wind and Thunder Gods screen and a 108-tatami ceiling painting of two dragons in the lecture hall.
Why it’s worth it
You can sit on the veranda of the dry garden for as long as you like and nobody will move you on. It is the calmest room in central Kyoto.
