The Tokugawa family temple, whose Sangedatsumon gate survived the war and now frames Tokyo Tower from the forecourt. Rows of small Jizō statues stand in the side garden.
Why it’s worth it
It is the single clearest photograph of what Tokyo is — a four-hundred-year-old gate and a 1958 steel tower in the same frame, neither apologising.
