Jongmyo Shrine
종묘
Jongno, Seoul · 서울
The Confucian royal ancestral shrine, holding the tablets of the Joseon kings in a single unpainted wooden hall so long it disappears in perspective.
Why it’s worth it
It is the most austere building in Korea and deliberately so. Entry is by guided tour on most days — check before you go, and take the English slot.
