Kasuga Taisha

春日大社

Nara Park, Nara · 奈良

A vermilion shrine at the foot of Mount Mikasa, approached through cedar forest lined with two thousand stone lanterns, with a thousand bronze ones hung inside.

Why it’s worth it

The dark corridor of hanging lanterns inside is lit permanently in one small room, so you get the effect of the twice-yearly festival on any day.
