A 342-metre grass-covered hill behind Tōdai-ji, burned off every January in a fire festival, climbable in about thirty minutes on a stepped path.

Why it’s worth it

The whole Nara basin from the top, with deer grazing around you at the summit. Closed in winter outside the burning festival.
