Kurama to Kibune

A forest trail over a ridge north of Kyoto, linking the temple village of Kurama with the river shrine at Kibune, both reachable by a single-track train.

Why it’s worth it

Thirty minutes from central Kyoto and it feels like a different prefecture. Walk it Kurama-side first so you finish downhill at Kibune, and there is an onsen at the Kurama end for afterwards.
