Sumida Hokusai Museum

すみだ北斎美術館

Ryogoku, Tokyo · 東京

A mirrored aluminium building by Kazuyo Sejima, holding the work of Katsushika Hokusai, who was born and spent most of his ninety years within a few streets of here.

Why it’s worth it

It is small enough to do properly in an hour, and the permanent floor reconstructs his studio — a man drawing on the floor of a room he never bothered to tidy.
